People always ask us what is biological dentistry? It isn’t something that most people are familiar with, and often when people don’t know what something is, they’ll avoid it. But biological dentistry is definitely something you’ll want to know more about, which is why we are starting this blog. People have so many questions—we hope to provide some answers.

Meridian Tooth Chart

The word “biological” means, “Relating to or concerned with the whole or with the complete system rather than with the analysis of, treatment of, or dissection into parts.” (www.meriam-webster.com/dictionary)

This applies to dentistry in that we are aware and concerned about the entire body, not just what is happening inside the mouth. Every part of the body affects everything else. Think about this: Mercury is one of the most toxic substances to the human body that we know, and yet “silver” amalgam fillings have a high Mercury content. Over time, the Mercury can break down and leak poison into the body. It only makes sense that this would affect the health of the overall body. One aspect of biological dentistry is that we only use the safest products available to put in yours or your family’s mouths. We are excited to talk about this and so much more in subsequent blogs.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is one of the most commonly used cosmetic dental procedures. Done incorrectly, and the person who wants whiter teeth gets them through the removal of his or her enamel. This makes the tooth more vulnerable to future decay. Done the right way, and the person can experience all of the benefits that come with whiter teeth including:

  • Increased self-esteem
  • Increased self-confidence

  • A more beautiful smile

Temporomandibular disorders (TMD)

Temporomandibular disorders (TMD), also called temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ), may be caused by things like:

    • Whiplash
  • Grinding of teeth

  • Missing or bad teeth

Silver Creek Dental can help treat TMD and help those who experience TMD to regain a normal semblance of life. Because TMD can cause migraines, it is important to get the symptoms under control and the best way to do this is to get to the root cause of the problem. If it is a dental issue, there will be a dental solution.

Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry is designed for those who experience anxiety when visiting the dentist. The problem with the anxiety is that it may grow with each visit. If the person has one bad experience, he or she may not return to the dentist until there is a huge problem. This problem and its pain will be associated with the dentist even if the problem could have been prevented with regular visits to the dentist. That will cause the person to dislike the dentist more and avoid going back until the next time there is a huge problem. Sedation allows the patient to get the work done without feeling anything or remembering it.

If you have a need for these or any other dental services, call the Silver Creek Dental office. They will fix you up fast and friendly.

Oral Cancer Screening

Oral Cancer is not a rare disease and unfortunately it is on the rise. This year, approximately 45,780 people will be diagnosed with oral cancer in the United States alone. Due to late stage discovery, one American dies every hour from oral cancer.
Dr. Chandler uses an oral cancer screening device, OralID, in efforts to discover oral cancers in their earliest stages. Currently, 63% of oral cancers are found in late stages, resulting in a a 5-year survival rate of less than 50%. Finding these abnormalities in much earlier stages can increase the 5-year survival rate up to 80-90%. Those interest in receiving an oral cancer screening or learning more about our advanced technology implemented at our office please call 801-465-1810 and ask about our OrallD screenings.
  • Oral cancer is more common in men than women.

  • Common symptoms of oral cancer include persistent sore throat, trouble swallowing and voice changes.
